What Does a Busser Do?

A busser is a restaurant employee responsible for clearing and cleaning tables, stocking tableware and glasses, and resetting the tables for the next guests. Bussers may also be responsible for helping to serve food, setting up tables, and providing guests with clean napkins and condiments.

The Des Moines Diner seeks an energetic, organized and team-oriented busser to add to our restaurant team. We offer competitive wages and a great working atmosphere!

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning and organizing tables, chairs and counters
  • Assisting servers in taking and delivering food orders
  • Greeting and seating guests
  • Restocking condiments and other supplies as needed
  • Providing silverware and other utensils to patrons
  • Setting up and/or breakdown of dining areas
  • Providing exceptional customer service to our guests

Work Hours and Benefits:

The work schedule of the busser will depend on the restaurant’s traffic but will normally be 30+ hours per week. Benefits will include vacation and sick leave accrual, health and dental insurance, and 401K options.

Qualifications:

The busser position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and presence proof of eligibility to work in the US. Previous background in a restaurant setting is preferred, food handling certifications are a plus. Bussers should also have an upbeat and welcoming personality, good communication and teambuilding skills, and be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Training and Education:

Basic food safety training and restaurant etiquette will be provided before the start of employment.
