Upon hiring, a he or she must become familiar with local court procedures and statutes. Once employed, they are responsible for ensuring that every word spoken in court is recorded accurately. This includes providing backup transcripts during breaks for judges to review on breaks and at the end of a legal proceeding. A court reporter may also occasionally be required to transcribe a recording when no official transcript was made during the proceeding.
